Building a Website for a Wood Artisan in Gettysburg, PA
Schultz Wood Studios, LLC is owned by Chris Schultz, a Gettysburg-based wood artisan specializing in detailed wood-burned artwork. His work spans a wide range of subjects including military vehicles, city maps, historical buildings, and custom commissioned pieces. Chris was referred to MAjor Designs by a long-time client and needed a website that could both showcase his portfolio and support online sales.
Developing a WordPress Website with Portfolio and eCommerce Functionality
To meet these needs, I built a custom WordPress website designed to separate and highlight two key areas of his business:
- A portfolio section to showcase one-of-a-kind and commissioned work
- An online store for items that can be reproduced and sold
A custom post type was created specifically for the portfolio, allowing Chris to easily add and organize his projects without mixing them into the eCommerce system.
Integrating WooCommerce and Square for Online Sales
To support product sales, WooCommerce was implemented and integrated with Square as the payment processor. This setup allows Chris to:
- Accept secure online payments
- Manage orders through a familiar system
- Keep his business operations streamlined
The combination of WooCommerce and Square provides a reliable foundation for selling both standard and custom items.
Creating a Flexible Platform for Ongoing Content Updates
The website was built with flexibility in mind, allowing Chris to continuously expand and update his content. He regularly adds new portfolio pieces and products, with plans to introduce additional content such as videos to further showcase his work.
