About

Stefan Hartman - Freelance Web Developer

I am a self-employed Web Designer, Web Developer and Graphic Designer.  I started taking a huge interest in the internet and web design back in the late 90’s.  I purchased a beginners book on HTML and only went up from there.

After graduating High School in 2002, I attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia in hopes to become a great animator.  Well that didn’t work out.  I left Philadelphia and returned to York, PA and attended the Computer Learning Network (now YTI) in Mechanicsburg, PA.  After completing their nine month program, I found it difficult to get a web design job.  I spent a few years at International Logistics Systems, Inc. as a Technical Illustrator.  While there I was searching and searching for a web based job.  I eventually found it at Wide Open Communications in Gettysburg, PA.

I was the primary (well…the only) web designer/developer at Wide Open.  I was responsible for designing, developing and maintaining all of the client’s websites.  When I started, a bulk of the sites I maintained were all static.  Customers had no way of updating their own site without any knowledge of web languages or web editors.  Clients would call or email with a list of updates for their sites and I would complete them.  I enjoyed the job a lot.

A huge chunk of my web design and development knowledge was formed at Wide Open.  I learned about SPAM filtering servers, Windows servers, Linux servers, E-mail Servers, MSSQL databases, MySQL Databases, cPanel, SSL Certificates,  e-Commerce websites and starting learning languages like Classic ASP, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and jQuery.  I also started learning about Content Management Systems like Kentico and WordPress.  The learning never stopped as clients would constantly ask for new features on their websites.

Working at Wide Open made me the web designer/developer I am today.  I left Wide Open seeking a higher paycheck and I did exactly that.  In 2014 I started my own self-employed Web Design, Development and Hosting business while still working my full-time 9-5 position. Since launching, each year has been better then the previous. The long term plan is to have MAjor Designs be my one and only job.

So take a look at my portfolio for all the various projects I have done.  If you want a quote about your future web project or just have any web based questions, let me know.  Hope to hear from you soon.
