SPHERE.NYSSA-PGA.org

This was a VERY fun project.  The New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc. (NYSSA) is dedicated to advancing the specialty of anesthesiology and supporting the physicians and scientists who are striving to provide the safest, highest-quality patient care to the citizens of New York state.  They have a quarterly publication called SPHERE which is directly mailed to their members but they wanted to start a web version.

Issues of the newsletter can be found on the website.  You can download the full PDF or read the web version of the pages.  Ads from the printed version are added into the sidebar of those issues.  The website is responsive so articles can be viewed on desktop or mobile and users can search through the articles.  All of this content is only available to members of the NYSSA-PGA.org website.  Since the SPHERE website is hosted on a totally separate WordPress environment, a function was developed to communicate with NYSSA-PGA.org’s website to authenticate users.  This way members don’t need to create another login to another website.

From a front-end development side, multiple classes were added so articles can be added inside the WordPress admin.  Each article is assigned a Volume and Number to associate with an issue.  Advanced Custom Fields was used to control these values as well as other info like PDF URLs, cover pages and more.

NYSSA is planning to add the newest newsletters to the website on a quarterly basis.  If you have a newsletter that you are looking to turn into a website, reach out!
