NYSSA – Long-Term Web Development, Security & Member Platform Integration

The New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA) is a 501(c)(6) organization made up of physicians and scientists dedicated to advancing anesthesiology and ensuring high-quality patient care across New York State.

I’ve been working with NYSSA since the late 2000s. What started as general website support turned into a long-term partnership where I’ve essentially become their go-to webmaster, developer, and problem-solver.

Over time, I’ve worked on multiple parts of their ecosystem—from their main website to spin-off projects and email campaigns—but the biggest impact has been taking control of an aging, messy platform and turning it into something stable and scalable.

Cleaning Up a Bloated, Outdated Website

When I re-engaged with NYSSA on their main site, it had years of buildup—empty pages, outdated content, and a lot of “no one knows why this exists anymore” type stuff.

I went through and:

  • Removed unused and broken content
  • Cleaned up legacy data and structure
  • Rebuilt key areas with a modern, responsive approach
  • Focused on making the site easier to manage long-term

Nothing flashy—just getting the foundation right so it actually works.

Fixing Malware & Locking Down Security

At one point, they were dealing with recurring malware issues. After bringing the site onto my hosting, I did a full audit and tracked the problem down to a vulnerability in an old sidebar widget.

Instead of patching around it, I removed the sidebar completely, cleaned out a bunch of legacy code, and locked things down using SolidWP.

Since then, the site has been stable and protected against the usual WordPress attack nonsense.

Turning a Printed Newsletter into a Searchable Platform

NYSSA publishes a quarterly newsletter that used to be designed as a PDF, printed, and mailed out to members.

In 2024, they decided to scrap the print version and go digital. I built out a web-based version at sphere.nyssa-pga.org that:

  • Lets members log in and access members-only content
  • Keeps pages publicly accessible for SEO and search traffic
  • Creates indexable pages for dozens of authors and contributors

So instead of a static PDF that disappears after it’s mailed, they now have a living content platform that continues to bring in traffic over time.

Custom MemberClicks SSO Integration (2026)

In 2026, I implemented a custom single sign-on solution using the MemberClicks API.

Members now use one login across:

I also worked directly with MemberClicks to get account.nyssa-pga.org set as the primary domain for their portal, instead of sending users off to a generic memberclicks.net URL.

Ongoing Development & Partnership

This isn’t a “launch it and walk away” project. I’m still actively involved—handling updates, improvements, new features, and whatever else comes up.

This is exactly the kind of work I specialize in: taking over complicated, aging websites, fixing what’s broken, and making sure they stay reliable long-term.

If your current setup feels like it’s held together with duct tape—or your last developer disappeared—I step in, figure it out, and get it under control.

“We have had the pleasure of working with Stefan for many years, and he has truly been an incredible asset to our team. He’s professional, reliable, and always delivers exactly what we need—often faster than expected. Our website projects wouldn’t have been possible without him, and we’re excited to continue working with Stefan!”
